1903 yılında Bursa’da doğan Şefik Bursalı, hocaları olan İbrahim Çallı, Hikmet Onat, Feyhamam Duran, Namık İsmail ve Avni Lifij’in Türk Ressamlar Birliği sergilerine öğrenciyken katılmaya başlamıştır. Daha sonra Avrupa’ya gitmiş ve birçok sanat merkezinde çalışma imkânı bulmuştur. 1937-1938 yılları arasında Atatürk’ün arzusuyla eserlerini Moskova, Leningrad, Kiev, Bükreş, Belgrat, Atina ve Paris şehirlerinde sergilemiştir.
