One of the oldest inventions in history is undoubtedly the discovery of fire. Thanks to a lamp that the museum’s founder Mehmet Yaldız found when he was only 12 years old, the question that occupied his mind; “I wonder how people were illuminated centuries ago?” led him to various research and collecting. When he turned 18, he decided to establish a museum. Mehmet Yaldız realized this dream approximately 40 years later.
Within the museum titled “Lighting and Heating Tools Through the Ages,” there are more than two thousand rare pieces related to the past. Most of these pieces were collected from various countries, mainly from Anatolia. One of the oldest inventions in history is undoubtedly the discovery of fire. According to current data, the discovery of fire goes back 1 million years. Following the discovery of fire, first torches and later lamps were invented. Light was obtained by filling various oils into stone lamps called 30-32 thousand-year-old ICE AGE lamps, which were hollow inside, and later, terracotta lamps dating back 10-15 thousand years followed them.
With the discovery of iron and glass 4 thousand 500 - 5 thousand years ago; various civilizations made heating and lighting tools from these until the present day. Vegetable and animal oils, as well as natural combustibles emerging from the earth and called rock oil, were used in many lighting and heating tools according to the artistic and mechanical understanding of that day. Many lighting and heating tools related to this subject were brought together through 65 years of work. Until humanity came to the discovery of electricity, this museum, where these discoveries are presented in a thought-provoking way, sheds a light reflecting the past and the future for people of all ages.
