Borusan Contemporary, also known as Perili Köşk, was established with the aim of bringing the Istanbul Borusan Contemporary Art Collection to wider audiences and increasing interest in contemporary art in Turkey. With its "office museum" structure, Borusan Contemporary aims to be a pioneer in its field in our country, both with its physical setting and the visitor experience it offers. Distinguished examples from the Borusan Contemporary Art Collection, which has been exhibited at Perili Köşk for a long time, are open to all art lovers on weekends.. In the building, which continues to function as the holding's office on weekdays, various selections from the collection as well as solo and group exhibitions created by important curators from Turkey and around the world take place on weekends.
Another aim of the museum is to contribute to Turkey's cultural and art environment by supporting exhibitions with special educational programs and talks for children and adults of all age groups. With its boutique and stylish cafeteria, Borusan Contemporary offers art lovers in Turkey a fully equipped and unique museum experience. Perili Köşk, with its original architecture, is one of the leading examples of Istanbul's cultural heritage.
Construction of Yusuf Ziya Paşa Köşkü, one of the most important and historic buildings of Rumelihisarı, began in the 1910s. At that time, Yusuf Ziya Paşa was serving as the Chief Aide-de-Camp of Abbas Hilmi Paşa, Khedive of Egypt. However, in 1914, due to the outbreak of the First World War and the Ottoman State's entry into the war, the craftsmen carrying out the construction were conscripted, and the work could not be completed. Yusuf Ziya Paşa lived in the mansion with his second wife Nebiye Hanım and Nebiye Hanım's 3 daughters from her first marriage until 1926, the year of his death. After the Paşa's death, the family lived in the mansion until 1993, while tenants lived on its first floor. Because of the unfinished construction, the incomplete and empty second and third floors caused the building to become known in the area as "Perili Köşk."
The mansion was sold in 1993 to contractor Basri Erdoğan. The survey, restitution, restoration and implementation projects of the structure were carried out by architect Hakan Kıran between 1995- 2000. The stone and brick cladding of the facade was completed in keeping with the restoration project. The bricks were imported from England and laid in the most suitable way to the original in 4 months. According to the implementation project, 2 thousand 800 cubic meters of concrete and 350 tons of iron were used in the reinforced concrete construction of the building. While the exterior appearance of the mansion was preserved, the interiors were arranged to provide a modern and spacious working environment.
The 10-storey structure overlooks the opening of the Black Sea on one side and the Marmara Sea on the other. Borusan Holding, which has continued its activities at Perili Köşk since 19 February 2007, has leased the mansion until the end of 2030.
