The tomb was rebuilt in 1863 by Sultan Abdülaziz, as it had been completely destroyed in the 1854 earthquake. The interior of the structure, which is covered with a dome set on pointed arches carried by four thick columns and with a vault, is plastered. Since the tomb was built on part of the Byzantine Church, there are mosaics in places on the floor.
