Konak Meydanı’nda yer alan ve İzmir’in sembolü olan İzmir Saat Kulesi, Osmanlı Padişahı Sultan II. Abdülhamid’in tahta çıkışının 25. yıldönümü kutlamaları dahilinde 1901 yılında inşa edilmiştir. 25 metre yüksekliğinde, dört katlı ve sekizgen planlıdır. Yapıda kullanılan Kuzey Afrika’ya özgü sütun başlıkları, at nalı kemerler ve yapının cephelerinin hiç boşluk bırakılmayacak şekilde dolgulandırılması, kökeni Kuzey Afrika ve Endülüs’teki yapılarda bulunabilecek olan bir mimari anlayışa, Oryantalist üsluba işaret eder. Kulenin saati Alman İmparatoru 2. Wilhelm tarafından hediye edilmiştir. Mimarlığını İzmirli mimar olan Fransız asıllı Raymond Charles Péré’nin üstlendiği Saat Kulesi’nin inşaatında kullanılan yeşil ve kırmızı mozaikler Efes’ten, esas bünyeyi oluşturan taşlar ise Sarayköy’den getirilmiştir.
