Prophet Daniel was a prophet who lived during the time of the 2nd Babylonian King Nebuchadnezzar (605-562 BC) and saved the Jews from the Babylonian captivity with his knowledge and prophecies. According to the روایت; when the Babylonian King saw in his dream that a baby boy to be born from the Israelites would shake his throne, he ordered the killing of the baby boys born to the Israelites. For this reason, when Prophet Daniel was born, he was left in a cave on a mountaintop to save him from death. Prophet Daniel, who grew up in the cave under the protection of a male and a female lion, joined his people when he became a young man. In a year of famine, Prophet Daniel was invited to Tarsus, and with his arrival in Tarsus, abundance came. For this reason, Prophet Daniel was not sent back to Babylon, and when he died, he was buried in Tarsus in the place now known as Makam Camisi.

When Tarsus was conquered in the 17th year of the Hijri during the reign of Hz. Ömer, the tomb of Prophet Daniel was opened, and here, inside a large sarcophagus, a tall body wrapped in cloth woven with gold thread was seen. In order that the body would not be stolen by the Jews, upon the order of Hz. Ömer, it was buried very deeply in its former place, and for security, the water of a small stream coming from the Berdan River was made to flow over the grave so that no one would touch it. Indeed, during the last restoration of the mosque, very thick and very regular grille irons were found deep down at the back and lower part of the mosque, at the place where the water enters. The body of Prophet Daniel is far below the water passing through these grilles. As a result of the excavation carried out in the area in question, the tomb was uncovered, and after landscaping, it was opened to visitors as Danyal Peygamberin Kabri from 2014.

The Ring of Prophet Daniel

As a symbol of the adventures he went through, on the stone of the ring on his finger is engraved a young boy between two lions, one male and one female, being loved by the female lion.
