Since it has no inscription, the exact date when it was built is not known for certain. The mosque was first repaired by II. Karamanoğlu İbrahim Bey in 1244, and later renovated into its present form in 1636 by Mehmed Çavuşoğlu Memi Bey.

It takes its name from a person named Sheikh Şerâfeddin, one of the Seljuk scholars and its first patron in the 12th century. Since it has no inscription, the exact date when it was built is not known for certain. The mosque was first repaired by II. Karamanoğlu İbrahim Bey in 1244, and later renovated into its present form in 1636 by Mehmed Çavuşoğlu Memi Bey. The mosque, which was repaired once again in 1881 with the contributions of Konya notables and benefactors, now appears entirely in the classical Ottoman architectural style.
