The sea-facing section of the French Honorary Consulate building, which has been in service since 1875 as one of the finest buildings of its period in İzmir, was allocated by the French Government to Arkas Holding for 20 years for cultural and artistic use. After restoration work lasting one year, the building opened in November 2011 under the name Arkas Sanat Merkezi. The two-storey historic building, transformed into a contemporary well-equipped art center, has 10 exhibition rooms. In addition to being a historic building brought to İzmir, Arkas Sanat Merkezi also has the distinction of being the first art center where the works of many international painters are exhibited.
