According to İbni Bibi; while the Seljuk Sultan Alâeddin Keykubat was traveling from Kayseri to Antalya, he was impressed by the beauty of the surroundings of Beyşehir Lake and ordered a palace to be built here. Kubad Abad Palace was built in 1236 under the supervision of the Vizier Sadeddin Köpek, who was the sultan’s master of the hunt and also served as chief architect, and in line with the sketch drawn by the sultan. While having this palace built, Alâeddin Keykubat also ordered a city to be established around it. Kubadâbâd Seljuk Palace Site is the only Seljuk Palace structure that has survived to the present day and was built by order of I. Alaaddin Keykubad (1220-1236). The complex is right next to Beyşehir Lake and on the foothills of the Anamas Mountains. Excavation works have been continuing since 1980. From the palace, dazzling tiles that now adorn museums and the palace ruins have remained to the present day. The motifs on the tiles depict hunting entertainments, magical beliefs, the sultan, dignitaries and servants. The rare tile works unearthed from the palace are exhibited in various museums in Konya, especially the Karatay Museum.
