Located opposite the main entrance gate of Ankara Castle, Ankara Rahmi M. Koç Museum was opened to visitors in 2005. Rahmi M. Koç Museum, Ankara’s first industrial museum, consists of two main sections: the historic Çengelhan and Safranhan.
Built during the reign of Kanuni Sultan Süleyman, Çengelhan is one of the rare structures that has survived to the present day and preserved its originality. Also housing a shop used by Vehbi Koç, the founder of Koç Holding, in the years when he started his business life, Çengelhan was reconstructed in accordance with its original form during the restoration works carried out between 2003-2005. In April 2005, it was opened to visitors as a museum affiliated with the Rahmi M. Koç Museum and Culture Foundation.
Safranhan, on the other hand, was built in 1511 and served as a typical Anatolian caravanserai. The inn, which was used as a prison in the final period of the Ottoman State and in the early years of the Republic, was opened to visitors as an extension of the museum after restoration works that continued until 2016.
With a rich variety ranging from small models to steam engines and classic automobiles, the museum houses more than 4 thousand objects in 32 rooms, revealing the history of many branches of industry from maritime to road transport, and from aviation to the field of medicine.
