The Republic Martyrs Monument is located 9 kilometers from Afyonkarahisar, on the İzmir-Antalya highway. It is a martyrs' cemetery built in 1999 in the name of the Mehmetçik and police officers who were martyred in the struggles during the Republican Period. Some of the martyrs of the Republican Period are in the Air Martyrs' Cemetery, while others are in cemeteries in the cities where the martyrs' families live. In 1999, a symbolic martyrs' cemetery was built in Afyonkarahisar, on a hill overlooking the area, in memory of the martyrs. However, there are also individual graves here of some people thought to have been martyred during the capture of the city.

In Afyonkarahisar, which formed the center of the bloody battles experienced during the National Struggle period, thousands of people from all over Anatolia were martyred for the defense of the homeland. Various martyrs' cemeteries were also built throughout Afyonkarahisar in memory of all the martyrs. Some of these martyrs' cemeteries are original, while others are partial symbolic sites. The places where the martyrs were buried cover wide areas, and at the same time, it is not known exactly who is buried where. For this reason, symbolic martyrs' cemeteries were built in the places where the bloody battles were fought, in memory of all the martyrs. In addition, there are also individual and mass martyrs' graves for which no monument was built.
