Dündar Tepe / Öksürük Tepe

On the 15 meter high mound located 3 kilometers southeast of Samsun İlkadım District, there are three cultural layers belonging to the Chalcolithic, Early Bronze and Hittite ages. The latest settlement on the top of the mound belongs to the Early Bronze Age. A Hittite settlement was found on the slopes of the mound. In the first cultural layer, structural remains dated to the Chalcolithic period, handmade ceramic fragments, terracotta weights, flint knives, etc. were found. The second cultural layer on the top and slopes of the mound is dated to the Early Bronze Age. In this layer, which ended with a fire, a rectangular planned house and hearth, dark gray colored vessels with red or brown interiors, bone objects, terracotta spindle whorls were found. In the third cultural layer dated to the Hittite Period on the slopes outside the top of the mound, three building layers were identified. In the first building layer, mudbrick houses with stone foundations (1500-1200 BC), in the second building layer, stone foundation remains (1500 BC), in the third building layer, ceramic finds, most of them painted slip, wheel-made and well-fired, terracotta seals, animal figurines, bone needles (before 1500 BC) were recovered.
