1135 tarihinde, Danişmendli hükümdarı Melik Mehmet Gazi tarafından yaptırılmıştır. Caminin kuzeye açılan kapısının yanındaki kitabe ise bir onarım kitabesidir. Melik Mehmet Gazi’nin yeğenlerinden olan Yağıbasanoğlu, Muzaffereddin Mahmud tarafından 1206 yılında onartılmıştır. Aynı şahsın kızı olan Atsuz Elti Hatun da Gülük Camii’ni aynı dönemde onartmıştır. Abidenin bu gün taşıdığı tek kitabe olan onarım kitabesi kuzey duvarın dış yüzüne, kapının yakınına konulmuştur.
