Helenistik ve Roma Dönemi Kentinin Akropolü. M.Ö. 334 te Pagos dağı eteklerinde bir tepe üzerinde bulunan kale Anadolu’yu Pers egemenliğinden kurtaran Makedonya Kralı Büyük İskender’in isteği ile yapılmıştır. Bugün Kadifekale olarak adlandırılan Pogos dağının adının antik kaynaklarca Grekçe ’de ‘Tepe’ anlamına gelen Pagos İskender’in Anadolu’ya çıkışı ve Pers egemenliğine son vermesi üzerine bölgede M.Ö. 334-133 arasında Helenistik dönem başlar. Efsaneye göre; İzmir’e gelen Büyük İskender, o zaman ormanla kaplı “ Pagos Tepesi “ denilen Kadifekale’de Nemesis Kutsal alanında avlanırken bir ara ulu bir çınarın altında uykuya dalar, rüyasında gördüğü iki Nemesis, İskender’den yeni İzmir kentini uyuduğu tepenin eteklerinde kurmasını ister, uykusundan uyanan İskender, Klaros’un Apollon kâhinine gördüğü rüyayı anlatarak fikrini sorar, kâhin rüyayı tek bir cümlede yorumlar : “ Kutsal Melez Çayı kenarındaki Pagos Tepesi eteklerinde yerleşecek İzmirliler, eskisinden dört kez daha mutlu olacaklardır.
