After 25 BC, the temple built for the Phrygian god Men was destroyed over time. The temple whose remains exist today was commissioned by King Pilamenes, son of the last Galatian ruler Amintos, as a token of loyalty to the Roman Emperor Augustus. During the Byzantine period, various additions were made and, with windows opened, it was turned into a church.
