Kocatepe Atatürk Monument and Inscription is located within the borders of Büyük Kalecik Town, in the Central district of Afyonkarahisar province, and on Kocatepe at an altitude of 1874. Its asphalt road is closed in the winter season due to heavy snow. Kocatepe is the place where the Great Offensive, which ensured the liberation of Anatolia and the Turkish Nation, was launched and directed by Commander-in-Chief Mustafa Kemal on 26 August 1922. By virtue of its geographical structure, it is a hill dominating the plains of Afyonkarahisar and Sinanpaşa. Commander-in-Chief Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and his companions came to Kocatepe on the evening of 25 August 1922 and launched the Great Offensive here on the morning of 26 August. The Commander-in-Chief, who personally directed and administered the first phase of the Great Offensive from the headquarters established here and from the trench that still exists today, left Kocatepe around noon on 27 August 1922.

A monument made of cut stone was built on Kocatepe, one of the cornerstones of the National Struggle, by the Ministry of National Defense in 1953, and a marble inscription with floral relief was placed on it. In 1993, the Atatürk Monument and its landscaping were made by the Ministry of Culture and opened to visitors. The Kocatepe Monument, weighing 4 tons, is made of bronze and is 7.5 meters high together with its pedestal.

The Victory Week celebrations held every year in Afyonkarahisar between 26-30 August begin on 26 August with the first ceremony held at Kocatepe and continue for 5 days. Despite having such great importance, visitor density is quite low. It is necessary to ensure that our children at primary education level visit this area, which witnessed the founding of the Republic of Turkey and remains in memory with its decisive victories achieved in a short time.
