It stores the lake waters between elevations 115 and 1125. At maximum elevations, the lake surface reaches 800 km2 and the water it stores reaches 6 million m3. The lake's elevation above sea level is 1.116 meters. Its width is 10-25 kilometers, and it measures 42 kilometers in the northwest-southeast direction. Its water is fresh and it has the characteristics of a natural lake. It reaches the Mediterranean through Manavgat Stream underground. Rather than rainwaters flowing from the Taurus Mountains and streams, the great majority of its inflow consists of underground sources.
In terms of the area it covers, Beyşehir Lake is Turkey's 3rd largest lake and at the same time the country's largest freshwater lake. Depending on the water level (1.121 - 1.125 meters), it covers an area of 615 to 745 km2. In terms of its formation, it is a karstic lake of tectonic origin. As can be seen from photographs taken from space, faulting in the north-south direction was the primary factor in the formation of the lake. It has been proven by a dye test carried out in the sinkholes on Mada Adası that the Kepez Fault, which starts from Mada Adası and descends between the Manavgat-Köprüçay basins, leaks water into both of these basins. The waters escaping from Hamat Burnu sinkhole in the north of the lake, Küre Düdeni, and the sinkholes around hacı Akif Adası are quite interesting.
A topographic survey of the bottom of Beyşehir Lake has been carried out. At the highest water level determined so far, at elevation 1125, the volume of the lake was 5,8 billion cubic meters, and at elevation 1121 it was 2,9 billion cubic meters. During sunset, a perfect view emerges thanks to the combination of the lake and Anamas Dağı. So much so that the image formed as the sun sets over Beyşehir Lake is world-famous.
There are on average 33 large and small islands on Beyşehir Lake. The number of islands in the lake also changes according to the water level. However, this change is not very significant. Birdwatching is also done in and around Beyşehir Lake. In addition, angling is practiced on the lake, and there are areas suitable for walking, cycling, and other nature sports.
