Kadı Burhaneddin’in 1398 yılında Kara Yülük Osman tarafından Sivas kalesi önlerinde öldürülmesinden sonra ona bağlı olanlar tarafından hayattaki tek oğlu, şehzade Zeynel Abidin Alaaddin Ali Çelebi'yi hükümdar ilan edilmiştir. Genç hükümdar, Kara Yülük’e karşı Kara Tatar Bey'den yardım istemiş ise de Tatar kuvvetlerinin gelmemesi üzerine yaklaşmakta olan Timur tehlikesini de göz önüne alarak Osmanlı Padişahı Sultan Yıldırım Bayezid'e haber yollayıp, şehri teslim etmek istediğini bildirmiştir. Bunun üzerine Yıldırım Bayezid büyük oğlu Süleyman Çelebi'yi Sivas'a yollamış ve o da Akkoyunlu Kara Yülük Osman Bey'i mağlup ederek "Kadı Burhaneddin Devleti'ni" Osmanlı topraklarına ilhak etmiştir.
