After Kadı Burhaneddin was killed by Kara Yülük Osman in front of Sivas Castle in 1398, his only surviving son, prince Zeynel Abidin Alaaddin Ali Çelebi, was proclaimed ruler by those loyal to him. Although the young ruler asked Kara Tatar Bey for help against Kara Yülük, when the Tatar forces did not arrive, he also took into consideration the approaching danger of Timur and sent word to the Ottoman Sultan Yıldırım Bayezid, stating that he wanted to surrender the city. Thereupon, Yıldırım Bayezid sent his eldest son Süleyman Çelebi to Sivas, and he defeated Akkoyunlu Kara Yülük Osman Bey and annexed the "Kadı Burhaneddin State" to Ottoman lands.
