Since ancient times, Birgi, which has hosted many civilizations, was successively under the rule of the Phrygian Civilization between 750-680 BC, the Lydian Civilization between 680-546 BC, the Persian Kingdom, the Pergamon Kingdom, and the Roman Empire. During the Byzantine Period, Birgi, which was initially known by the name Pyrigion, meaning tower, later took the name Christoupolis. In Anatolia, during the period of the Beyliks, Birgi, which was under the rule of the Aydınoğulları Beyliği, served as the capital of the same beylik throughout the XIIIth and XIVth centuries.
