It is the oldest settlement unit of İzmir. It is a mound located on the bank of Manda stream, in the Karacaoğlan neighborhood of Bornova district. During the periods when it was inhabited, the Gulf of İzmir extended two kilometers further inland, the region was wetter than it is today, and had a richer flora and fauna. Yeşilova Höyüğü, Yassıtepe Höyüğü and İpeklikuyu Höyüğü, in the central part of the Bornova Plain, are the points where the first regular settlements in present-day İzmir were located. On the other hand, in terms of area, it is the largest settlement in Western Anatolia.
