Eskiden zaviyede her salı günü düzenli toplanıldığından halk arasında “Salı Tekkesi” olarak adlandırılır. Zaviyede, Anadolu Selçuklu Sultanları I. İzzeddin Keykavus ve I.Alaeddin Keykubat’ı Fütüvvet Teşkilatı’na davet etmek üzere Abbasi Halifesi’nin elçisi olarak Anadolu’ya gelen Şeyh Şehabettin Sühreverdi yatmaktadır. Anadolu Selçuklu Sultanlarının da dahil olduğu Fütüvvet Teşkilatı, Anadolu’da Ahi Teşkilatı’nın temelini oluşturur. Zira Ahilik teşkilatının oluştuğu ilk illerden biri Eskişehir’dir. Ünlü Mutasavvıf Sühreverdi’nin adına Odunpazarı’nda bir zaviye kurulur ve Fütüvvet Eskişehir’de teşkilatlandırılır. Özellikle Moğol istilası sırasındaki otorite boşluğunda fütüvvetin şehri koruyucu ve insanları birleştirici rolü öne çıkar. Bu misyonu ile zaviye, uzun yıllar ayakta kalır.
