Bina, Mimar Kemalettin tarafından Turan Numune Mektebi adı ile 1915-1916 yılları arasında inşa edilmiştir. Türkiye Cumhuriyeti’nin doğuşunu belgeleyen, Çanakkale Savaşları’ndan, Kongrelerden, Büyük Millet Meclisi’nden, İnönü Savaşları’ndan, Sakarya Savaşı’ndan, Büyük Taarruz’dan ve Cumhuriyetin ilk yıllarından fotoğraflar sergilenmektedir. Atatürk’ün çeşitli dönemlerine ait adet portreleri, Birinci Dünya Savaşı’nda, Kurtuluş Savaşı’nda ve Cumhuriyet döneminde Türk donanmasında kullanılmış gemi maketleri sergilenmektedir. Müzenin birinci katında Atatürk’e ait eşya ve eserler, 1925-1980 arası yerel gazeteler ve kütüphane bulunmaktadır.
