Anadolu Selçuklu Devleti döneminde 1267 yılında III. Gıyaseddin Keyhüsrev zamanında yapılmıştır. 1267 yılından sonra cami üzerinde değişikler yapılmış, restorasyonlarla Selçuklu mimari özelliklerini yitirmiştir. Kendi adı ile anılan parkın içerisinde bulunan cami şehrin en eski camilerindendir. 1944-1951 yılları arasında müze olarak kullanılan cami, bu tarihten itibaren tekrar onarılarak ibadete açılmıştır.
