According to legend, this person, referred to as Yabalı Dede, used to work as a shepherd for an agha. In the war the agha joined, he sees this person, who worked as a shepherd beside him, at the front together with his pitchfork. During the war, the agha sees a tine that broke off from the shepherd’s pitchfork and takes this tine with him. The people congratulate the agha when he returns to his village after the war. He says that the one who should actually be congratulated is not himself, but this person known as Yabalı Dede, who worked as a shepherd beside him. When the agha returns from the war and mounts the tine of the pitchfork he brought with him onto the pitchfork that the shepherd always kept with him, it is understood that he too was personally in the war and that this war was won with his contributions. Thereupon, it becomes known among the people that this person was an important figure.
Yabalı Dede says, “Wherever you see my clothes, bury me there.” Again, one day while shepherding, during threshing time, he dies in the area where his tomb is now located. At first, the top of the tomb built for this person was made of reeds, but in later times it was made of wood, and between 1993-1995 it was expanded and arranged as a reinforced concrete structure and brought to its present form.
Today, Hıdrellez events are held every year in the area where the tomb is located. Since old times, whenever needed, the local people go to the area where the tomb is located to pray for rain. Those who have wishes also go to the tomb and make their requests.
One of the various legends told about the tomb is as follows: “During the period of the Cyprus War, a ball of fire rose into the air from the area where the tomb is located, and this ball of fire returned to the tomb again at the end of the war.”
The tomb is located within the borders of Paşakonağı village in Düzce Merkez.
