Şeyh Edebalı'nın kızını alarak damadı ve Osman Gazi ile de bacanak olmuştur. Eylül 1299 yılında Karacahisar fethedildikten sonra Osman Gazi adına Cuma Hutbesini okuyup, Cuma namazını kıldırmıştır. Böylece, hem Osman Gazi'nin hür ve tam istiklal sahibi bir devlet başkanı olduğunu, hem de Osmanlı Devleti’nin istiklalini dünyaya ilan etmiştir.
