The first proposed name of the ancient city located in Şıhlar Village, Manavgat District, Antalya Province, was put forward as Seleukeia based on Stadiasmus Maris Mayni, the sailors’ handbook. However, today the view is gaining weight that it should be Lyrbe, an ancient Pamphylian city with the identity of a mountain city, based on the sacred area mentioned in an inscription written in the Side language of the city, and that Seleukeia should be located at another point accessible by the Manavgat Stream.

Since the city is surrounded on three sides by deep ravines, there are city walls only on the south side, which have been preserved quite well to this day. The monumental gate providing access to the city from the south is located almost in the middle of the walls. This gate is bounded by two monumental towers. The walls extending from both sides of the monumental gate to the east and west continue as far as the cliff. The outer face of the walls was built in irregular rectangular technique with cut sandstone blocks. The west side of the agora in the center of the city was set against the slope, and two-storey structures were placed on its eastern edge.

The agora, generally dated to the Hellenistic Period, is entered through the monumental gate in the southeast. This tetrapylon was built in the style of a four-legged gate and was probably added to the agora later. The structures to the west of the Agora are identified as Gallery I and II. The north wing of the Agora consists of important buildings. Among these, the space containing the Mosaic of the Seven Sages is identified as a library because of its structural functions. In the southwest of the ancient city there is a bath complex consisting of three parts and a church, a two-storey building. The necropolis is in the southeast and southwest of the city. Although Lyrbe is a mountain settlement, the existing remains show that it was a highly developed city, especially in the Roman period.
