Fetih Gazi, who served as the governor of Amasya during the Danişmendliler Period, had this large church converted into a mosque and named it Fethiye Camii. A minaret was added in 1883 by İncezade Hacı Mehmet to the mosque, which originally had no minaret.

Fethiye Camii was converted into a mosque from an old Byzantine church. It is thought that the church was commissioned in the 7th century by Helena, the daughter of Byzantine Emperor Phocas. Fetih Gazi, who served as the governor of Amasya during the Danişmendliler Period, had this large church converted into a mosque and named it Fethiye Camii.
A minaret was added in 1883 by İncezade Hacı Mehmet to the mosque, which originally had no minaret. Since very little of its church state has remained standing, and the walls of the mosque were completely plastered and painted white, it has not been possible to identify the original wall remains of the structure. The mosque is built on the apse section of the church. For this reason, the eastern facade of the mosque is angular in a way that forms half a hexagon. Entered through a small entrance in the north wall, the western facade of the mosque was later closed in the form of a niche with a wide arch, and lower and upper windows were opened in this section.
