Kaleköy Kalesi Kaya Mezarları

It is carved into the rock on the southeastern side and at the foot of Ünye Kalesi, located within the borders of Kale Köyü, about 7 kilometers northeast of the district center. The entrance of the tomb, which has been neatly carved into the rock, was arranged in the form of Doric-order Greek temples. In terms of its overall appearance and workmanship, it is the rock tomb that best reflects the Hellenistic Period art of the Region. The lion relief symbolizing power on the top acroterion has been damaged. On one of the corner acroteria there is an eagle relief with its wings open. Since the other corner acroterion is quite damaged, the depiction on it could not be identified. It is thought that there are two antithetical figures on the pediment of the triangular-pedimented rock tomb, but due to the damage this could not be determined with certainty. In the lower part of the pediment there are 7 triglyphs and 6 metopes between them. No depiction was made on the metopes. The front of the entrance opening was made in the style of a front chamber, and the sides of this section are concave and curved. On the side surfaces of the entrance and the front-chamber-style section, remains of frescoes made in the Middle Ages, during the period when the tomb was used for religious purposes, can be seen.

NOTE: Since the tomb, which is quite high up, cannot be climbed to, it has been described as much as can be seen from the outside. It was made by carving the foot part of the castle. Its entrance was arranged in pediment form like those in ancient Greek temples, its sides are concave and curved, and there are frescoes in its inner parts.
