Caminin inşa kitabesi yoktur. Ancak 1335 yılı civarında yapıldığı düşünülmektedir. İlhanlı döneminde Niğde Valisi olan Sungur Bey tarafından yaptırılmıştır. Caminin mimarı bilinmemektedir. Fakat minber ile muhtemelen kuzey taç kapısının ahşap kapı kanatlarını Hoca Ebubekir, daha sonraki döneme ait doğu taç kapısının ahşap kapı kanatlarını ise Hacı Muhammed isimli ustalar yapmıştır.
