The mosque has no construction inscription. However, it is thought to have been built around 1335. It was commissioned by Sungur Bey, who was the Governor of Niğde during the Ilkhanid period. The architect of the mosque is unknown. However, the minbar and probably the wooden door leaves of the northern portal were made by masters named Hoca Ebubekir, while the wooden door leaves of the eastern portal, belonging to a later period, were made by Hacı Muhammed.
