Antik dönemde Dağlık Kilikia sınırları içinde kalan Kanytella, bugünkü Kanlıdivane, Eliaussa Sebaste’den (Ayaş) 3 km dağ tarafında içeri kısımda yer alır. 60 metre derinliğinde, kayalara oyulmuş basamaklarla inilen bir obruğun kenarını kaplayan yerleşim yeri, yazıtların belgelediği gibi M.Ö. 2. yüzyılda Olba Hanedanlığı’na bağlıydı, hatta Olba’nın denize açılan yolu yani limanı görevini üstlenmişti. Erken Bizans yerleşimi ise günümüze kadar gelmiş yapılar sayesinde ispatlanabilmiştir. Kilise kalıntılarından anlaşıldığı kadarıyla yerleşim Geç Antik zamanda en parlak devrini yaşamış olmalıdır. İmparatorluk Dönemi mezar yapılarının kalitesi ve sayısı, yerleşimin hali hazırda Roma zamanında önemli bir refah düzeyine ulaştığını işaret eder.
