Bina 1904-1905 yıllarında, dönemin Belediye Başkanı tarafından, Belediye binası olarak yapılmıştır. 18 Kasım 1921’de Akşehir’e taşınan Batı Cephesi Komutanlığı’na Karargâh Binası olarak tahsis edilmiş, Karargâh bu binada 24 Ağustos 1922 tarihine kadar hizmet vermiştir. Büyük taarruzun hazırlıkları ve planlarının yapıldığı, kararının verildiği belediye binası, 1964 yılında müze yapılmak üzere Turizm Bakanlığına devredilmiştir. Onarılıp, düzenlenerek, umut ve mücadele günlerinin belgesi olarak, 5 temmuz 1966 tarihinde “ Atatürk ve Etnografya Müzesi” adıyla ziyarete açılmıştır. 1981 yılında yapılan onarım ve düzenlemeden sonra da adı, “ Batı Cephesi Karargâhı Müzesi” olmuştur.
