Akşehir Nasreddin Hoca Arkeoloji Ve Etnografya Müzesi

Rüştü Bey, who had the mansion built, was the examining magistrate of Akşehir (the investigating judge of that period). There are two structures in the district known by his name. One of these is Rüştü Bey Hanı, built in 1904, and the other is Rüştü Bey Konağı, whose construction began at the beginning of World War I. After Rüştü Bey had the house belonging to his father Mustafa Ağa, located on the same parcel, demolished, the mansion, whose construction was begun by Armenian masters, was completed by Turkish masters.

Planned as a twin house with a basement and two floors above the ground floor, with a wooden structural system and adobe and stone materials, one part of the building was occupied by Rüştü Bey’s sons and one part by himself. In Akşehir, where different ethnic groups lived together throughout history, a mixed cultural texture can be seen. For this reason, elements different from traditional Turkish houses are frequently encountered in the architectural texture of the city. The traces of this mixed culture are also clearly seen in Rüştü Bey Konağı.

Rüştü Bey Konağı, registered by the decision of the High Council of the Ministry of Culture dated 15.11.1985 and numbered 1569, was expropriated by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in 1989, and its restoration was begun in 1992. Rüştü Bey Konağı, later arranged as the “Nasreddin Hoca Archaeology and Ethnography Museum,” has preserved its originality to the present day. The mansion, built in the twin house plan type, was constructed as two storeys above the basement and entrance floor. There are a total of six rooms on the entrance floor, and together with the administrative units, the Ethnographic and Archaeological Works Depot is also located on this floor. The second floor is the section where archaeological works are exhibited. There are a total of six rooms in both sections of the building, three in each. The works are displayed in rooms divided chronologically into periods. The third floor is the section where ethnographic works are exhibited. On one side there are rooms where Nasreddin Hoca’s anecdote and the sıra yarenleri are reenacted, and where the bridal room belonging to Akşehir is exhibited. On the other side, works of an ethnographic nature are exhibited. In the central hall, the Seyyid Mahmud Hayrânî Tomb door, showing 13th-century woodwork, and the sarcophagus belonging to Şeyh Eyüb Tomb are exhibited.
