It was named İplikçi Camii because the İplik Pazarı was established where the mosque is located. In the vicinity of the bazaar, its construction was begun in 1562 by Abdi Ağa, one of the wealthy men of Isparta, and it was completed in 1569. The top of the first building was covered with wood; however, it was not clad with lead. The worn roof covering was repaired in 1725 in its former state. In 1782, by Halil Hamid Paşa, who became Grand Vizier, one wing was added to the east and west sides of the mosque, and it was enlarged by having a minaret and library made of kövke built on the east side. Later, the domed mosque was completely demolished and the present mosque was built in its place. Because of Halil Hamid Paşa, who made the additions, the mosque was also referred to as Halil Hamid Paşa Camii.
