It is located in Bulancak District, approximately 300 meters west of İncüvez Deresi, within a hazelnut garden. The church, carved into the main rock mass, was registered and placed under protection by the decision of the Trabzon Cultural and Natural Heritage Preservation Board dated 11.10.1990 and numbered 856. Although there is no inscription or epigraph on the monument, which is called “At Mağarası” and “Acısu Mağarası” in the area, regarding its construction date, it is possible to date it to the Late Byzantine Period. The rock church, made by carving out the interior as a two-storey structure, is entered on the first floor from the front entrance on the north side, in the form of an iwan with a barrel-vaulted cover. This floor consists of three sections. In the interior, there is a central room and two rooms opening to the outer entrances. The central room consists of an apse and three side chambers. There is a round-arched window on the apse. On the first floor there is also a second section with an apse. The apse here opens outward with two windows. The third section is located on the south side of the first floor. The second floor of the structure extends northward from the first-floor entrance. This floor consists of two sections extending in the north-south direction. No decorative element has been found in the building complex.
Acısu Kaya Kilise is one of the important and beautiful examples of church architecture created with the rock-carving technique, examples of which we encounter in our region.
