Mimar Sinan‘ın 80 yaşında yarattığı ve “ustalık eserim“ diye nitelediği yapıt olan Selimiye Camii, Osmanlı-Türk mimarlık tarihinin olduğu kadar, dünya mimarlık tarihinin de başyapıtları arasında gösterilmektedir. Edirne'nin ve aynı zamanda Osmanlı Döneminin simgesi olan cami; 1569-1575 yılları arasında II. Selim’in emriyle yaptırılmıştır. Çok uzaklardan dört minaresi ile göze çarpan yapı, kurulduğu yerin seçimiyle Mimar Sinan’ın aynı zamanda usta bir şehircilik uzmanı olduğunu da gösterir. Kesme taştan yapılan cami iç bölümüyle 1620 metrekare, tümüyle ise toplam 2475 metrekarelik bir alanı kaplamaktadır. Selimiye Camii, yerden yüksekliği 43.28 metre olan 31.30 metre çapındaki kubbesiyle ilgi çeker.
