Amasya Inner Castle, consisting of the area between the wall along the Yeşilırmak River and Kızlar Sarayı, is the name given to the area where today’s Hatuniye Neighborhood is located. Today, it is bounded by the clock tower in front of the Governor’s Office building, İstasyon Bridge and the city walls. Today, as in the Ottoman Period, it is entered through three gates. The gate at Saray Kapısı, where Alçak Bridge is located, the gate at Meydan Kapısı, where İstasyon Bridge is located, the gate at Helkis Kapısı, where the Clock Tower is located (Teacher’s House), and the gate where Mağdenis Bridge facing the courtyard of İmaret Mosque is located are called Mağdenus Kapısı.
On the Ancient Period city walls along the Yeşilırmak, there are 19th century Ottoman houses with bay windows over the river and a street texture, and in this area there are also Hatuniye Mosque (1510), Çukur (Mustafa Bey) Bath (15th century), Yıldız Bath (12th century), Ottoman period street fountains, the Museum House Hazeranlar Mansion (dated 1865), and the Princes Museum, which can be visited. In keeping with tradition, old houses have been restored and given functions as boutique hotels, pensions, restaurants and cafes, and at the same time you can see the Ottoman culture created by the people still living in the old houses.
