It was built in memory of Krispos, an ancient Egyptian pantomime artist who performed in Karadeniz Ereğli and died there. In front of the monument, which stands 2.10 meters high together with its pedestal, there is a poem consisting of 19 lines and inscribed by carving. The monument consists of two columns with Corinthian capitals placed on a high pedestal, a niche between the columns containing a headless bust, and a crowning section designed as a triangular roof.
The inscription on this tomb monument, built in the name of Krispos, the famous pantomime artist of the period, reads as follows: “Tombs are people’s last houses and last walls. They are more faithful to bodies than houses. What remains from them are shed tears and the mortal yet undying inheritances of the dead that will remain forever. After the sleep of death, the beauty of the body can no longer be regained. This is a city of silence. The solid eternal resting place, into which one is carried naked and buried, is the eternal house. What kind of tomb is this and who lies here? It is the monument, worthy of hatred, of the victories won in life. The signs of what is stone and earth. O gravestones of the dead, with your silent letters speak of the deceased. After losing and destroying your body, which person gave his name to this place? The dead man Krispos. A citizen of the Land of Fariz (Egypt) and of the ear-bearing Nile River, lies beneath this monument.”
