Built in Denmark in 1898 as an unarmed rescue ship, the Alemdar tugboat was used during the War of Independence to transport weapons and supplies in the Black Sea. Today, it owes its place among the heroic ships of the Republic, lined up beside massive warships, to this important service. The replica of the ship, built in exactly the same dimensions as the original vessel that was dismantled in 1982, was opened on 11 august 2008 in Zonguldak, Ereğli as a museum ship and exhibition hall.
