Dokur Evi, whose restoration was completed by Uşak Municipality by preserving its original materials and replacing structural elements that had begun to rot, become deformed, and lost their characteristics, began operating in 2010 under the name “Uşak Belediyesi Dokur Evi Geleneksel El Sanatları Halıcılık Merkezi” in accordance with its 180-year-old historical texture. There are 40 carpet looms in Dokur Evi. At Dokur Evi, which hosts courses opened both within Uşak Municipality and jointly by Uşak Municipality, Türkiye İŞ-Kurumu and Halk Eğitim Merkezi, Uşak carpets, whose history dates back to the Seljuks and which were frequently depicted in the paintings of European artists, and the art of carpet weaving, one of the oldest handicrafts in history, are kept alive.

At Dokur Evi, where efforts are made to preserve hand-woven carpet making, one of Uşak’s greatest cultural values, it is aimed to contribute to our city’s economy through the sale of hand-woven carpets woven by our hardworking women, both domestically and abroad, and to contribute to women’s employment, one of our country’s biggest problems. The carpets woven under the supervision of expert instructors in their fields are presented for the appreciation of the people of Uşak and domestic and foreign tourists in the exhibition section.

The building was constructed by bringing the wooden materials used in the construction of Dokur Evi from the Doğala locality, with the trees cut down and carried on backs. Dokur Evi, which bears the traces of the characteristics of a typical Turkish house, is a Uşak house with an outer sofa. The sofa, in the old expression, is the section resembling a salon, used for sitting in summer, with open surroundings. In the house there is the main room where guests are received and also the rooms where families lived. It is one of the houses commonly used in Uşak in that period.

Dokur Evi was built by the Okkalar lineage and later passed into the ownership of the Tomas and Dokur families. During the time of Okkalar, the first owners of the house, the house was used for training hafız. Later, the house passed to the Tomas family, and 6 months later it came into the ownership of the Dokur family. In 2004, it was purchased by Uşak Municipality to be restored. Its restoration was carried out by Uşak Municipality by preserving the original materials and replacing structural elements that had rotted, become deformed, and lost their characteristics, and in 2010 it was reopened for use as “Uşak Belediyesi Dokur Evi Geleneksel El Sanatları Halıcılık Merkezi”.
