The first work for the establishment of the museum began in 1965 with the storage of museum pieces in the building where Tahsinağa Library was located. Construction of the present museum building began in 1968 and it was completed and opened to visitors in 1971. The museum building consists of an entrance floor and a basement floor, and the exhibition halls are located on the entrance floor. Archaeological and ethnographic works from prehistoric periods to the Ottoman period are exhibited in the exhibition halls.
