Kütahya, maden açısından zengin ve maden üretiminde ülkemizin önemli illerinden birisidir.. Maden ruhsat sayısının en çok olduğu il olan Kütahya; Türkiye Bor rezervlerinin %50’sini, linyit rezervlerinin %7,6’sını ve seramik hammaddelerinin (feldispat, kuvars, kaolin gibi) çeşit ve rezerv olarak çok önemli bir miktarını karşılaması; manyezit gibi refrakter hammaddesinin de günümüzde üretildiği yegâne yer olması bakımından, maden sanayinde önemli bir yer almaktadır. Kütahya’nın bu maden kaynaklarına ilave olarak termal ve jeotermal kaynakları da çok zengindir. Bu zengin maden kaynakları örneklerinin tanıtılması ve sergilenmesi açısından Jeoloji Müzesi önemi büyüktür. Fabrikası’nın ürettiği şap maden örnekleri sergilenmektedir.
