It is a train station built on the European Side of Istanbul during the reign of Abdülhamit II. There had previously been a small temporary station where Sirkeci Garı is located. Granite marble and stones brought from Marseille and Aden were used in the construction of the current station building, whose plan was drawn by the German architect August Jachmund. The foundation was laid on 11 February 1888[gar, it was completed in 1890, and the opening of the building was carried out by Ahmed Muhtar Paşa on behalf of Abdülhamid II on 3 November 1890.
