The museum, opened in May 2008 by the Islamic science historian Prof. Dr. Fuat Sezgin, is located in the Has Ahırlar Building adjacent to the palace rampart wall in Gülhane Park. With an exhibition area of 3 thousand 500 square meters, the museum is regarded as the second museum of its kind in the world after Frankfurt, with a total collection of 570 instruments, mock-ups and models.

The works compiled through years of intensive scientific and historical studies on Arab-Islamic manuscripts have today formed the basis of the works that make a unique journey possible for its visitors. The museum offers the opportunity to comprehensively follow the evolution of the history of science across different disciplines. Works belonging to the fields of astronomy, geography, seafaring, time measurement, geometry, optics, medicine chemistry, mineralogy, physics, technology, architecture and military technique are exhibited in a systematic arrangement.

In addition to the aesthetics and instructiveness of scientific works, İslam Bilim ve Teknoloji Tarihi Müzesi also sheds light on today and the future by presenting through works and documents the process of the science history of the Islamic world in the past.
