Turkey's first photography museum was established through the cooperation of Fatih Belediyesi and Fotoğraf Dostları Derneği. Located in the Kadırga Semti near Sultanahmet, which has a special place in Istanbul's historical face, rich with Mimar Sinan's monumental mosques and examples of civil architecture around its square dating from medieval times, and where palaces and elite settlement were located during the Byzantine and Ottoman periods, the museum consists of five photography galleries, a photography archive and a library in a one thousand square meter area allocated by Fatih Belediyesi in the Kadırga Kültür Merkezi building.
The museum, which has long been the dream of photographers, is managed by Fotoğraf Dostları Derneği. The museum has 4 galleries of 60 square meters and 1 gallery of 260 square meters. In these galleries, 118 meters of lighting track and 120 professional exhibition lights have been used. İstanbul Fotoğraf Müzesi offers a brand new cultural service to Istanbul with its collections, exhibitions, publications, photography archive, library, activities, and projects and training aimed at the development of Turkish photographic art.
