The construction date of Hızır Bey Camii, also known among the public as Ulu Cami, is not known. However, it is thought to have been built by Hızırbey (d. 1328) with masonry walls and an earthen flat roof. A section of the roof of the mosque, where 3 thousand people can worship at the same time, was left open to throw off the snow that accumulates in winter, and a snow pit was made inside the mosque. The mosque burned in the fire that broke out in Eğirdir in 1814. It was rebuilt in a manner suitable to its old style with aid collected from the public by Eğirdir mütesellüm and guardian Yılanlıoğlu Şen Ali Ağa. In 1883, under the leadership of Hacı Murat Ağa, its roof was covered with tiles. The minaret of the mosque was built on the gate of the castle wall that forms the common wall of Dündar Bey Medresesi and Hızırbey Camii.
