Gaziantep Bakırcılar Çarşısı, generally called Bakırcılar Çarşısı, but consisting of a complex of bazaars where many handicraft tradesmen produce, with its wood-clad shops and stone-paved streets, offers us scenes from another period.
Although the construction date of the shops in Bakırcılar Çarşısı is not known for certain, they are thought to have been built in the 19th century. The bazaar, consisting of single-storey shops, is located within the hanlar district. The shops, opening onto the street with arched entrances, were built of smoothly cut hard limestone (keymıh) stone.
The bazaar, included within the scope of the Kültür Yolu Project, was deemed worthy of the Historic Towns Union’s “Achievement Award.” The art of coppersmithing, which gave the bazaar its name, continues to exist intensively today as well.
