The monument and museum are a complex built in memory of the Balkan War of 26 March 1913 and its martyrs. The grave of Şükrü Paşa, who defended Edirne under conditions of deprivation during the war, was brought to Kıyık Tabya, one of the defense positions of Edirne, and a monument was commissioned in memory of this. Together with the monument, a museum was established in the tabya here, describing the Balkan Wars and consisting of objects from that period in the possession of the people of Edirne.
