Mecitözü ilçesi, Elvançelebi Köyü’nde bulunan bu caminin bir zaviye olarak yaptırıldığı sanılmaktadır. Bu köye ismini vermiş bulunan Elvan Çelebi Aşık Paşa’nın oğludur. Büyük dedesi de Baba İshak’ın hocası Baba İlyas’dır. Baba İshak isyanını bastıran Selçuklu Sultanı II.Gıyaseddin Keyhüsrev, bu arada Baba İlyas’ı da öldürmüştür. Bundan sonra bu aile Mısır’a kaçmış, daha sonra Çorum’a yerleşmiştir. Elvan Çelebi bugünkü köyü, camiyi, yanına da kendi türbesini, hamam ve bir tarafına da dergah yaptırmıştır. Cami kaba yontma taştan kare planlı olarak 1555 yılında yapılmıştır.Üzeri ahşap bir çatı ile örtülmüştür. Cami 1750 yılında onarılmış olup, bundan ötürü de içerisinde barok etkiler, özellikle tavanda görülmektedir.
