ADATEPE is located on the eastern coast of the Aegean Sea, on the western slopes of Mount Ida, at the northern end of the Edremit Gulf. Settlement began in ancient times; it is in the region mentioned as "Gargaros" in the Iliad epic, and settlement continues there today. The area where the village is located has been under the rule of Troy, Leleg, Lesbos, Persia, Athens, Rome, Seljuk, and Ottoman, and bears their traces. Examples of the stonework formed by the accumulation of centuries can be seen in the existing buildings in the village. Due to the start of concrete development in the surrounding area, the village was declared a SIT area in 1989.
