Bilecik, bir Doğu Roma (Bizans) kenti olduğu dönemde Belekoma ismiyle bilinmekteydi. Şu anda tahrip edilmiş temellerine rastlanan ve Eski Bilecik şehrinin etrafında kurulup geliştiği Belekoma Kalesi de, Karasu Havzası Hamsu Vadisi’nin en dik ve sarp kayasının üzerine kurulmuştu. Bugün bedenlerinden eser kalmayan kalenin, kayaların boş yerlerini dolduran temel parçaları doğu yüzünde görülmektedir. İki kısım olduğu ileri sürülen kalenin şato biçimindeki kısmında Tekfur, halk arasında kral kızının mezarı olarak adlandırılan ikinci kısmında ise Tekfur ailesi ve diğer kadınlar bulunurdu.
